Our first time skiers had their first lesson at the Brentwood Ski Centre on Wednesday 25th January. They all worked very hard and took to to it like "polar bears to snow"
They will be having a second lesson on Thursday 2nd February so keep your eye out for more photos.
PILA SKI TRIP DAY 1
Our apologies for the delay in posting photos......... a few technical issues with the Italian internet!!
Anyway here we are. A good journey yesterday arriving early just before lunchtime so could take our time getting kitted out, having lunch and then chilling out after the long coach ride.
Today has been amazing. The weather is glorious as you can see, if a bit cold. A few nerves getting on the lift but once up in resort everyone was up and running...sorry skiing! after a short time. The students have made good progress on the first day and despite a few moans about boots and legs aching they all got on with it. Hope you like the slide shows and feel free to comment back we will pass them on to the students.
Thirteen students from our school spent two days aboard the Rona sailing projects sail training vessel Rona II (below). They sailed from the River Hamble (Southampton) round to Haslar marina (Portsmouth). During the voyage the students were shown how to helm (steer) the boat hoist sails, use winches, deploy fenders and lines and generally help out with all aspects of ship board life. Including cooking, and cleaning.
The weather was not the best, in fact we seemed to get the worst two day. Driving rain on the Tuesday, the water proof clothing came into its own, then 26 Knots of wind (Force 6) on the Wednesday. Despite all of this the students rose to the challenge and took all of this in their stride.
Because they did so well they were awarded either an entry level or bronze RYA (Royal yachting Association) sailability award. All the students did exceptionally well.
Entry level was awarded to
Louise Camille, Sam Hammond, Tayla Josling, Ben Marriot, Meg Cocklin, Khairat Abdul and James Newell
Bronze award was awarded to
Emre Soybir, Courtney Carroll, Harry Williamson, Jack Johnson, Connor Griffiths and Taylor Barnard
